The sequence is derived from the birth chart and traditional rules that determine direction and the starting age. Different calculation conventions can create small differences in the exact start date, so a responsible tool should state its method rather than hiding the assumption.

Each pillar contains a Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch. Those characters bring element, polarity, hidden-stem, combination, clash, and role relationships that interact with the natal chart for roughly a decade.

A cycle may make one topic require more attention: learning, visibility, responsibility, money management, relationships, movement, or recovery. The expression depends on age, location, work, family, health, and the options that are actually available.
